Monday, March 31st Update:
Alpine Communications continues to negotiate with Viacom for continued carriage of 15 MTV Network channels. We anticipate the negotiations will continue up until the deadline of 11:59pm tonight, March 31st. Viacom continues to demand an excessive and unreasonable increase for continued carriage of their networks. If Alpine Communications is unable to negotiate a fair deal with Viacom, there is a chance that their channels will go dark overnight. Thank you for your support of Alpine in doing our best to keep cable TV rates reasonable.

Alpine Communications’ Statement on Viacom Channels
Alpine Communications’ General Manager, Chris Hopp, has issued the following statement:
Currently, Alpine Communications is in negotiations with Viacom concerning several networks, including Comedy Central, Nickelodeon and MTV. While we hope to maintain carriage of these networks, in an effort to be open about our discussions we notified customers that Viacom may pull their networks.
We have produced a new website, TVOnMySide.com, to keep our community up to date on trends in programming costs, and we welcome customer feedback at this site.
“Programming fees account for the bulk of our customers’ monthly bills in Elkader, Guttenberg, Garnavillo, and Marquette. Our goal is to protect our customers from significant programming fee increases,” he added. Viacom demanded an increase that is 40 times the rate of inflation.
“We will keep the community informed of our progress in these discussions,” said Chris Hopp.
